A Belgian soldier serving in a NATO battle group has been killed during an exercise in Lithuania, VRT reported.
According to the channel, the soldier was seriously injured in a mortar incident on November 28. He died the next day. He was deployed there as part of the Belgian military contingent as part of a NATO mission.
Belgian Defense Minister Theo Francken confirmed the incident on November 28. He expressed his condolences to the relatives of the deceased and thanked Lithuania for its support.
The NATO multinational battle group, deployed in Lithuania as part of the mission to strengthen the eastern flank, is under German command.
