Yesterday's meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and the US delegation to find a solution to Ukraine, including special envoy Steve Witkoff and US President Donald Trump's son-in-law Jared Kushner, is a leading topic in the Western press, BTA reported.
Putin rejected the peace deal for Ukraine after a five-hour meeting with the Trump delegation, writes the British newspaper "The Times", drawing attention to the Kremlin's words that "no progress has been made towards resolving the crisis in Ukraine".
We are ready for war with Europe, the headline of an article in the "Daily Telegraph" newspaper quotes Putin.
The British daily newspaper notes that the Russian leader issued this warning when rejected the latest version of the peace agreement for Ukraine, proposed by Donald Trump's envoys.
Hours before the meeting with Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, Putin said that the interference of European countries in the plan to end the war in Ukraine is unacceptable, notes the "Daily Telegraph".
American representatives, together with Ukraine and Europe, made adjustments to the initial plan for Ukraine, the goal of which was to find a compromise option that is more acceptable to Kiev. Some controversial points regarding territorial concessions and the refusal of Ukraine's aspiration to join NATO were removed. This did not please Putin, the British newspaper writes.
"Europe is making proposals for a peace plan for Ukraine that are unacceptable to Russia," Vladimir Putin emphasized.
"Daily Telegraph" focuses on Putin's statement that "Russia does not intend to go to war with Europe, but if Europe starts a war, Russia is ready."
The Russian leader also said that "peace is not on Europe's agenda and that it is hindering US attempts to resolve the conflict."
Putin's comments are intended to create further disagreements between Trump and Europe, writes the "Daily Telegraph".
This was Steve Witkoff's sixth meeting with Vladimir Putin this year, the British publication notes.
After five hours of negotiations, the meeting in Moscow ended in disappointment, as it became clear that no agreement had been reached on territorial issues.
"Daily Telegraph" draws attention to the words of Putin's foreign policy adviser Yuri Ushakov that the meeting was "useful, constructive and meaningful".
At the same time, however, Ushakov stressed that no compromise was reached on territorial issues, although the American delegation had proposed several options.
At the end of the meeting, Putin asked Witkoff and Kushner to convey several messages to Trump, Ushakov also said.
Trump's envoys failed to reach a peace agreement, and Putin told Europe that he was ready for war, the "Independent" newspaper writes.
Both sides describe the negotiations as constructive, but admit that they did not reach a compromise on the most complex issue - that of territorial concessions.
Russia is ready for war with Europe, Putin said during talks with American representatives, who were not present progress noted, writes the "Guardian".
Putin's meeting with Witkoff and Kushner lasted nearly five hours, writes the "New York Times".
The two sides did not reach any specific agreements, said an aide to President Putin, as the United States tries to push through a plan to end the war in Ukraine, notes the American publication.
