NATO wants member states to allocate over $1 billion per month for US arms supplies to Ukraine - 1

NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte expects the Alliance member states to allocate more than $1 billion per month for the supply of US arms to Ukraine in 2026, DPA reported.

The funds will be used to purchase American equipment such as interceptors for air defense systems, Rutte said today at a meeting of NATO foreign ministers in Brussels.

The financial instrument "Priority Requirements List for Ukraine" provides for the sale of US-made ammunition and weapons to Ukraine's European allies and Canada, who will then provide them to the Ukrainian side. The financial initiative was launched this year in response to US President Donald Trump's demands that other NATO countries pay for further US military aid.

Rutte said the initiative's goal of raising around $1 billion a month was on track to be achieved this year and he expected further statements from NATO countries.

The German foreign minister said before the Brussels meeting that Germany would allocate another $200 million to supply US weapons and ammunition to Ukraine.

Poland, Norway and the Netherlands will add to the funding to reach a total of $500 million for US weapons. Germany has already provided the same amount this year for the financial initiative.

"We need to make sure that while negotiations continue to end Russia's war, and we don't know when they will end, Ukraine is in the best possible position to continue fighting and to strike back at the Russians," stressed Mark Rutte.

Today's NATO meeting in Brussels, which will discuss support for Ukraine and efforts to strengthen the Alliance's deterrence and defense capabilities, is overshadowed by the ongoing US peace efforts in Ukraine and the absence of Secretary of State Marco Rubio from Brussels.

German Foreign Minister Johann Wadeful said before the Brussels meeting that Russian President Vladimir Putin "has not yet shown a real desire for negotiations." "Putin wants to continue to undermine European and Euro-Atlantic security. "He wants to divide us to weaken our alliance, but he will not succeed," added Vaddeful.
