Russian midnight drone strikes in different parts of Ukraine have killed at least four people, including a mother and her 10-year-old son, and left tens of thousands without electricity, Ukrainian officials said today, quoted by Reuters, BTA reported.
The boy and his mother were killed in a strike on a residential area in the town of Bogodukhov in the Kharkiv region, the regional prosecutor's office said. According to its data, six people were injured in the attack in the region. Kharkiv region has been a frequent target of strikes in the nearly four-year-long war that began with Russia's full-scale invasion on February 24, 2022.
Ukraine's Air Force said Russia fired 11 ballistic missiles and 149 drones into Ukraine overnight. Of those, 116 drones were shot down or neutralized, while some of the missiles were intercepted and did not reach their targets.
The attacks on Ukraine continue despite U.S.-brokered peace talks with Russia. President Volodymyr Zelensky said the Donald Trump administration wants Moscow and Kiev to find a solution to end the war before the summer.
A massive Russian drone attack on the southern port city of Odessa has killed one person and wounded two others, the head of the Odessa regional military administration, Oleg Kiper, said. He said residential infrastructure and a gas pipeline were damaged.
A drone attack in the northern Chernihiv region killed a 71-year-old man and wounded at least four others, the head of the regional military administration, Vyacheslav Chaus, said. “People were sleeping,” Chaus said, adding that some buildings were completely destroyed and others were seriously damaged in the strike.
Nine people, including a 13-year-old girl, were also injured in a drone attack in the Dnipropetrovsk region, the head of the regional military administration, Oleksandr Khanzha, said.
Russia has damaged a high-voltage substation near the town of Novovolynsk in Volyn region, which borders NATO member Poland, Novovolynsk Mayor Boris Karpus said. As a result, more than 80,000 people were left without electricity.
He said that the city's strategic infrastructure is currently running on generators while teams try to restore power.
Since the fall of 2025, Moscow has stepped up attacks on Ukraine's power grid and other energy infrastructure, leaving millions of people without electricity and heating in sub-zero temperatures.
Ukrainian Railways also reported new midnight attacks on railway infrastructure in Sumy and Chernihiv regions.
