A 72-year-old man in Ukraine's Rivne region killed five people with an axe and hammer at a center for people displaced by the conflict in Ukraine, Agence France-Presse reported, citing local police, BTA reported.
The motive for the attack, which took place early this morning, is still unclear, but police say it was a family dispute that escalated into a fight between residents of the center, which is housed in a former school building.
The victims are three men, aged 56, 60 and 68, and two women, aged 81 and 78, respectively. Four of the victims were displaced from Donetsk region, while the fifth victim was from Kirovgrad region.
Footage released by police shows a hole in the door of one of the rooms in the center and traces of blood on an axe and on the floor of the building.
The attacker is also displaced from Donetsk region. He has been arrested and is being investigated for premeditated murder, the country's prosecutor general's office said.
