The Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine Kyrylo Budanov said that he was not aware of the administration of US President Donald Trump setting a specific deadline for ending the war. His words were quoted by the BBC.
In an interview with the Lebanese publication Al-Modon, Budanov commented on information appearing in Western media that Washington would like the conflict to end by the summer. According to the publications, such a desire is also related to the domestic political situation in the US, including the upcoming midterm elections for Congress in November.
"I have not heard that our American partners have set specific dates for the end of the war. The current negotiations are a very complex and multi-layered process and it is impossible to set a clear deadline for its completion. Of course, we are doing everything possible to complete them," Budanov said.
According to him, in the current situation it is inappropriate to discuss holding presidential elections during a possible ceasefire. "My task now is to ensure an effective negotiation process. Talking about elections under these circumstances makes no sense," he stressed.
Budanov also commented on the issue of possible territorial concessions that Moscow sets as a condition, as well as the idea of the so-called "Korean scenario" - the creation of a demilitarized zone along the line of contact. He was categorical that Ukrainian society will not accept such an approach.
"I am convinced that the Ukrainian people will reject any claims to our land. All occupied territories will remain temporarily occupied and will inevitably be liberated over time," the head of the presidential office said.
