Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said today that he welcomed the ceasefire agreement between the United States and Iran, adding that Kiev was ready to “respond in kind“ if Moscow stopped the strikes, quoted by Reuters, BTA reported.
“Ukraine has always called for a ceasefire in the war that Russia is waging here, in Europe, against our country and our people, and we support the ceasefire in the Middle East and the Persian Gulf, which paves the way for diplomatic efforts,“ he wrote in “Ex“. "It is obvious to everyone that a ceasefire can create the right conditions for agreements," he added.
Ukraine has previously praised the "determination" of the United States in its attacks on Iran. The Islamic Republic is a close ally of Russia and has supplied thousands of drones used in airstrikes on Ukraine, Reuters notes.
Kiev has repeatedly called on Moscow to agree to a full ceasefire since the start of the four-year war so that the two sides can begin talks on a peace deal.
For its part, Russia says it wants comprehensive peace terms to be agreed first before it stops fighting.
Ukraine has also sent more than 200 specialists to the Middle East to help counter Iranian drone attacks there. Ukrainian teams of military experts will continue to work in the region to help further develop security capabilities, Zelensky said.
