Venezuela is battling a record number of forest fires. Satellite data has registered more than 30,000 outbreaks in the past 3 months, writes “Reuters”.

In the Venezuelan part of the Amazon alone, there were nearly 5,700 active fires as of the end of March, according to NASA data. Most often outbreaks are caused by human activity to clear agricultural land.

Venezuela's environment ministry said in March it had launched a coordinated effort with helicopters and additional equipment to fight the fires.
