A critical moment is approaching in Ukraine, American support must not stop. This was stated by Andrii Yermak, chief of staff of the President of Ukraine, in an interview with Politico, urging Donald Trump and other Republicans not to forget Ronald Reagan's promises.
Ukraine is currently experiencing a critical munitions shortage, and $60 billion in military aid remains blocked in Congress due to GOP reluctance to help Kiev. Ukraine has indicated that Russia is preparing for a new large-scale offensive in the summer of this year.
Andrey Yermak said that Republicans should remember what Reagan did during the Cold War against the “evil empire” in Moscow. “I don't believe that someone who represents the party of Reagan would abandon Ukraine,” said Volodymyr Zelensky's adviser. Reagan knew very well that dictators do not stop on their own, but must be stopped, Ermak also pointed out.
Andrii Yermak ultimately hopes the aid will be approved in Congress – he didn't say when, but he hopes it will be soon. “Meanwhile (the delay) is costing us lives and I very much hope it will be approved this month because Ukraine is approaching a critical moment,” he said.
Yermak believes that the city of Kharkiv may be at the epicenter of the next major Russian offensive on the front. “We know that Putin is preparing a new wave of mobilization, and we believe that the new counteroffensive operations of the Russians may begin at the end of May or the beginning of June. Of course we have to be ready for it. "We still critically need additional air defense systems, because without them it is impossible to defend our cities," he added. “I would like to emphasize that now is a critical moment. It is very important that the package be approved this month”, Ermak announced.
