The ceremony on Wednesday and Thursday was attended by Ukrainian Deputy Foreign Minister Maksim Subkh. The opening of the diplomatic missions comes in a context where Ukraine is trying to counter Russian influence in Africa
At the opening of the embassies, the Ukrainian diplomat stated that it is about opening a new page in bilateral relations and in Ukraine's relations with Africa.
In an effort to counter Russian influence and revive ties with Africa, Ukraine plans to open several embassies on the continent. Since the start of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba has visited the continent several times to try to drum up support for Kiev against Moscow.
Now the deputy foreign minister will visit Ghana, Mozambique, Rwanda and Botswana in the coming weeks to officially open Ukrainian embassies there as well.
