Janet Yellen: No excuse for congressional Republicans delaying aid to Ukraine - 1

US Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen stressed last night that President Joe Biden's government , who is running for a second term on the Democratic Party side, is committed to providing financial and military aid to Ukraine, stating that "there is no excuse" about the delay in the approval of this aid in the US Congress by the representatives of the Republican Party, reported Reuters, quoted by BTA.

Yellen made this statement after her meeting with her Ukrainian counterpart Serhiy Marchenko and Prime Minister of Ukraine Denis Shmygal in Washington on the sidelines of the spring meetings of the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank in the US capital.

The Speaker of the House of Representatives in the US Congress, Mike Johnson, announced yesterday that in the lower house of the US Parliament, the aid packages for Ukraine, Israel and the Indo-Pacific region will be voted on this Saturday.

Yellen said she and Shmigal and Marchenko discussed joint priorities, including global financial aid for Ukraine, progress on Ukrainian reforms and Russian reparations obligations for the Moscow-led war in the neighboring country.

"U.S. financial assistance is more imperative than ever because it is inextricably linked to Ukraine's success on the battlefield and the government's ability to provide vital support to its people," Yellen noted. She recalled that the US and its allies have provided significant assistance to Kiev since the start of the full-scale Russian invasion in February 2022.

Shmigal, in turn, called for sanctions against the entire Russian banking sector and the entire Russian nuclear sector, while emphasizing the urgent need for American aid to his country.
