Polish President Andrzej Duda is not authorized to discuss the possibility for deploying nuclear weapons in the country. This was stated by Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski in an interview with the Polsat TV channel.

"Mr President has already been told at the highest level not to talk about it, now there is no chance. “I don’t know why you said that”, Sikorsky said.

He noted that according to the law, the president conducts the foreign policy, which is formed by the Polish government. The diplomat added that discussions about the deployment of nuclear weapons on Polish territory should not be held in public.

On April 22, the President of the Republic, Andrzej Duda, in an interview with the newspaper Fakt said that Poland is ready to deploy NATO nuclear warheads if necessary . He explained that he has already repeatedly discussed this issue with US partners, but so far no decisions have been made either by the Polish authorities or their NATO partners. Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk, in response to Duda's statement, noted that such matters are the prerogative of the government and expressed his desire to meet with the president to clarify his motives for such a loud statement. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that this topic is not discussed in the current cabinet.

The official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, said that the American nuclear weapon would immediately attract the attention of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces and would be taken into account in military planning if it were deployed on Polish territory. Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Sergey Ryabkov told TASS that the nuclear facilities of the NATO countries, if permanently located on the territory of Poland, would become a military target for Russia.
