Scholz promised not to raise the retirement age in Germany - 1

In a message on the occasion of May 1, which is Labor Day, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz promised the retirement age not to be picked up, reported DPA, quoted by BTA.

"For me, it is a matter of integrity not to deprive those who have worked for a long time of the retirement they deserve," Scholz said in the video address.

"And younger people, who are at the beginning of their working life, have the right to know how long they will have to work,", emphasized the German leader.

In Germany, people born after 1964 retire at age 67. There is a possibility of early retirement at 63, in which case the pension is reduced.

Olaf Scholz stressed that workers in Germany have never worked as many hours as last year.

"That's why I get annoyed when some people say disparagingly that people in Germany take a vacation. With over 46 million working women and men in Germany, there are more people employed than ever before," the chancellor said.

Scholz also said that in the coming years Germany will need even more manpower.

"That is why we are taking measures so that people who flee to us from Russia's war in Ukraine can find work faster," explained the German chancellor.

Work is not just about making money. "Work means belonging, having colleagues, being respected and valued,", Scholz pointed out.
