Osmani: VMRO-DPMNE blocked the road to the EU and NATO, we cut it - 1

Deputy- the chairman of the largest Albanian party in the Republic of North Macedonia - DSI, Buyar Osmani, today called on those who voted for the opposition to support the European Front in the upcoming elections, which, in his words, “remains the most stable path to a secure future” of the country, BTA reported.

„VMRO-DPMNE blocked the road to the EU and NATO, we cut this knot. They recycle nationalist theses, flirt with pro-Russian theses, openly threaten the glorious uprising of 2001, increase tensions between ethnic and religious communities. The European front guarantees security and coexistence, uniting all communities. Citizens should not believe those who want to take us back. The elections on May 8 are a referendum against nationalism, Osmani said at a press conference in Skopje.

According to Osmani, the European Front will have 20 deputies in the country's future parliament and is “the only one that can ensure a Badenter majority” in the legislature. The “Badenter majority”, which began to be implemented after the armed conflict in the country in 2001, was formulated by former French Minister of Justice Robert Badenter and provides for the inclusion of ethnic communities in making important decisions.

„The two majorities are necessary for a stable government and a stable parliament. We continue to think according to the concept from before the Framework Agreement and 2001, when we think only of the one majority of 61 people's representatives. A majority always goes with a second majority, called a "Badenter majority". "I think all attempts to underestimate the second majority after 2002 are futile," Osmani said.

When asked by a journalist what will happen if the winners of the elections do not invite DSI and the coalition to become part of the future government, Osmani said that this way of thinking is offensive to him and to Albanians.

„How do you still think Albanians can be invited or uninvited? The citizens decide who will form the government. I will say it again: there is no government without a double majority – 61 (deputies) plus the majority according to the Badenter principle. These are conditions without which he cannot according to the Framework Agreement. There is no stable government or functioning parliament without Badenter's majority, this is the basic spirit of the Framework Treaty and this is clear to all, Macedonian political parties, Albanian, Turkish and others. And this is not my assessment. I am talking to you about the Framework Agreement, about the spirit of the Framework Agreement and about the functioning of the state in the last 20 years. I don't know how to explain it, should I take a blackboard and draw?" Osmani said.

The future government in North Macedonia is among the most discussed topics in the country, after on election night after the first round of the presidential elections, VMRO-DPMNE chairman Hristiyan Mitskoski announced the Albanian opposition as the preferred coalition partner after the parliamentary elections.
