The chairman of the former ruling party in Poland “Law and Justice&rdquo ; (PiS) Jarosław Kaczynski said today that the goal of the upcoming elections for the European Parliament is for Poland to remain a sovereign and independent country, the Polish news agency PAP reported, quoted by BTA.
„Let us remember that these elections that await us will also be held for Poland, so that it remains an existing state, a sovereign and independent country,” said Jaroslaw Kaczynski in the southern Polish city of Kielce.
Kaczynski made the statement during a party meeting, during which PiS presented its candidates for MEPs. Among them are the names of former Prime Minister Beata Szydlo, former Prime Minister and current PiS MEP Joachim Brudzinski, current PiS MEP and former Interior Minister Mariusz Kaminski, former MP Maciej Wonsik, as well as Daniel Obaitek, former director of “Orlen” – the largest Polish state fuel company.
According to Kaczyński, the European elections are being held so that the Poles will be free. “So that nothing is imposed on us, so that the laws are respected, so that the constitution is not a fiction, so that other laws and regulations are not a fiction, as they are today,”, he declared.
„Poland should be a member of the EU, because today it is necessary, but Poland should be a member of the EU as a strong country that develops properly and that catches up with the West,” added the leader of “Law and Justice&rdquo ;.
„We may catch up with the West,”, Kaczynski said, adding that this could happen for the first time in history. “We can achieve this huge historical success”, he emphasized.
The upcoming elections for the European Parliament will be held between June 6 and 9. Poles will vote on June 9, electing 53 MEPs.
