The Russian enemy is coming from all sides. This is how DeepState commented on the situation near the city of Volchansk in Kharkiv region, UNIAN agency reported.
The co-founder of the Ukrainian project DeepState (which collects and analyzes information from open sources) Roman Pogoreli said that the Russian occupiers are trying to enter the northern part of Volchansk, which is in ruins in many places.
The Russians are advancing from different directions, namely from the north, west and east. According to him, the situation in the region is now quite difficult. The Russians are trying to break into the city and gain a foothold there, and Ukrainian forces are doing everything they can to stop them. It is too early to draw conclusions because the situation is very dynamic.
Ukraine still controls about 60 percent of the border town of Volchansk in Kharkiv Oblast amid a relentless Russian offensive, Reuters reported, citing deputy regional governor Roman Semenyukha. "The enemy continues to try, especially in Volchansk, to push the Ukrainian armed forces out of the city," he said on Ukrainian national television. "About 60% of the city is under the control of the Ukrainian armed forces, which means that the attacks do not stop," Semenyukha added.
Recently, the Russian army launched an offensive in the Kharkiv region, opening a new front. According to analysts, the goal of the occupiers is to make the ZSU withdraw its troops from other points on the front. Thousands of civilians have already been evacuated from Volchansk and the region. Volchansk is located on the border with Russia and nearly 70 km from Kharkiv.
The Russian army occupied Volchansk on the very first day of its invasion of Ukraine, on the morning of February 24, 2022. In the autumn of 2022, the Ukrainian army liberated Volchansk, and since then Russian troops have regularly shelled the city.
Russia does not have sufficient forces for a major breakthrough in Ukraine. This was stated by American General Christopher Cavoli, who is the Supreme Commander of the Allied Forces in Europe. Ukraine said last week it was slowing the advance of Russian forces in the country's northeast, where the situation remains, as Volodymyr Zelensky said, extremely difficult. Moscow is leading an offensive there that has made territorial gains its biggest since late 2022.
