Olaf Scholz: Germany not planning to expand arms supplies to Ukraine - 1

Olaf Scholz recently made it clear at an event in Berlin that does not see a need to increase supplies of Western weapons to Ukraine, emphasizes "Tageschau", emphasizing Germany's cautious approach.

Scholz pointed out that Germany has established "clear rules" to send weapons to Kiev, which were created in agreement with Ukraine, are currently in force and are being observed. The chancellor's main goal is to avoid the conflict escalating into a larger war.

The cautious stance reflects Germany's commitment to maintaining peace and stability in the region.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyi mentioned on May 20 that discussions with Western allies about the potential use of delivered weapons against Russian territories are ongoing. Although no specific countries were named in those discussions, reports by The Wall Street Journal and Politico revealed that Ukraine had approached the United States with such a request.

Adding to the complexity of the situation, The New York Times reported that US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken has proposed easing restrictions on how these weapons can be used by the Ukrainian armed forces.

Germany maintains a firm position not to expand the scope of arms supplies to Ukraine, seeking to prevent further escalation.

Meanwhile, discussions and debates about the strategic use of these weapons continue between Ukraine and its Western partners.
