The Slovak government and the hospital where Prime Minister Robert Fico is staying have reported significant improvements in the state leader's health, Reuters and BTA report.
Fico was assassinated earlier this month in Handlova, a central Slovak city. He was attacked and shot with four bullets at close range.
The 59-year-old leader was rushed to a hospital in Banska Bistrica, the regional center, in a critical condition. He underwent major surgery immediately after his arrival and had to undergo another surgery two days later.
Quick action by the police led to the arrest of the attacker on the spot. He, identified as 71-year-old Juraj Tsintula, is facing charges of attempted murder.
This is the first assassination attempt against a European political figure in more than two decades.
Cintula claimed in court that his intention was to injure, not kill, the prime minister, citing disagreement with Fico's government policies.
