Turkey's Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan called on all European Union countries to follow in the footsteps of Spain and several others by recognizing Palestine as an independent state. His appeal was made during a press conference in Madrid, where Fidan was joined by officials from Spain, Palestine, Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Jordan, reports BTA.
Fidán began his address by praising Spain for its courageous decision, which he says contributes significantly to global peace and security.
„Spain, along with some other European nations, has made a huge contribution by recognizing Palestine as a sovereign state,” Fidan said. He emphasized the importance of this recognition and encouraged other EU countries to take a similar position.
Fidan promised "to continue working tirelessly for a two-state solution, for regional peace and security,", quoted by BTA.
On Tuesday, Ireland, Norway and Spain officially recognized Palestine as an independent state.
