Qatar and Egypt plan talks with "Hamas" about the ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, reported Reuters, quoted by BTA, citing White House National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan.
He made the announcement on the sidelines of the Ukraine Peace Conference being held in Switzerland this weekend.
Sullivan said he had discussed the matter with Qatari Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman al-Thani. The two will hold another conversation today in Switzerland, where they are attending the conference on Ukraine.
"Hamas" welcomes the cease-fire offer made by the US, but insists that an agreement must guarantee an end to the war, a demand Israel rejects. Israel describes the response of "Hamas" of the new peace agreement proposed by the US as a total rejection.
Sullivan said U.S. officials scrutinized the response of "Hamas" and added that they believe there is still room for progress and that the next step will be for Qatari and Egyptian mediators to talk to "Hamas".
