Szijjártó: Ukraine conference won't achieve its goal without Russia - 1

The Ukraine conference in Switzerland will fail to achieve its goal because Russia will not is presented to her. This was said by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Economic Relations of Hungary, Peter Szijártó, who participated in a conference on Ukraine in the Bürgenstock resort.

„Switzerland's peacemaking efforts have always been and continue to be highly valued. But frankly, a peace conference can only achieve its goal if both belligerents are at the negotiating table. This will not happen this weekend”, the head of the MFA wrote on his Facebook page (banned in Russia, owned by the Meta corporation, recognized as extremist in the Russian Federation).

He noted that Hungary continues to call for “genuine, substantive peace talks between the belligerents”. “The international community must force the warring parties to finally agree to a ceasefire and sit down at the negotiating table,” Szijjártó said as he left Budapest for Switzerland.

The Hungarian government has previously noted that all parties to the conflict should take part in such a conference and that it is impossible to count on its success without Russia.

The conference on Ukraine takes place on June 15-16. Bern invited more than 160 delegations, including from the Group of Seven, the Group of Twenty and the BRICS countries. But as the organizers announced on the eve of the meeting, not all have sent their representatives: 91 countries, the Serbian region of Kosovo and 8 international organizations are present. 55 countries delegated heads of state and government. In Bürgenstock, the group of countries of the collective West is numerically dominant, which leaves no hope for a balanced discussion.

Russia is not invited to the forum. Most UN member states did not send their delegations. Notably, China is not on the list of participants, and Brazil participates with observer status. There are no delegations from Azerbaijan, Belarus, Venezuela, Egypt, Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, China, Cuba, Nicaragua, Pakistan, Syria, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Ethiopia and many other countries.

There are three items on the agenda of the forum. These are humanitarian issues, nuclear safety and food security. The Swiss government clarified on June 14 that the countries can share their views on issues such as the exchange of prisoners of war, the release of civilians and the repatriation of children. The final document is expected to be adopted.
