President Zelensky arrives in Warsaw for key visit - 1

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky will visit Warsaw today, the office of Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk said, quoted by Reuters and BTA.

Although Poland has been one of Ukraine's most stable allies since the Russian invasion in 2022, bilateral relations have been strained over the Volyn massacre of 1943-1945.

Poland claims that more than 100,000 Poles were killed in the massacres carried out by Ukrainian nationalists. At the same time, thousands of Ukrainians have died in retaliatory killings.

Warsaw has long insisted on free access for its specialists to the places where the remains of the victims are supposedly buried, in order to carry out exhumations and proper burials.

A few days ago, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk announced a "breakthrough" in the negotiations on this issue, stating that Ukraine had decided to allow the first exhumations of the victims of the Volyn massacre.
