The Kyiv International Institute of Sociology (KMIS), one of the leading sociological services in Ukraine, has published the results of a new survey that shows a high level of support for President Volodymyr Zelensky, although it reports a decline, reports the BBC.

According to the data of the survey conducted at the end of May this year, 70% of the respondents stated that Zelensky should remain in his post until the end of the martial law in the country. This shows that the legitimacy of the president is not questioned by a significant majority of the residents of Ukraine.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has repeatedly questioned Zelensky's right to remain in office after his four-year term expires. However, lawyers insist that Ukrainian laws prohibit elections during wartime and require the incumbent president to serve until the newly elected leader takes office.

The KMIS survey also reveals that 56% of Ukrainians support the activities of President Zelensky. This represents a drop from the previous poll, conducted in the fall of 2023, when support was 77%.

Furthermore, 58% of the respondents believe that the country's authorities should not make compromises in the negotiations and should continue the fight as long as necessary. This indicator also marked a decline, as it was 80% in May 2022.
