Greenland does not want to be part of the United States, but is ready to strengthen cooperation, the island's Prime Minister Mute Egede said in an interview with Fox News.

“We do not want to be Americans, we do not want to be part of the United States, but we want strong cooperation with the United States“, he said.

Egede added that Greenland will always be part of NATO.

In addition, Greenland has something to offer Washington, he said, and is therefore open to American investment in resource extraction.

Newly elected US President Donald Trump said on January 7 that Greenland should be part of the United States, emphasizing its strategic importance for national security and the protection of the "free world", including from China and Russia.

Greenland Prime Minister Mute Egede, for his part, stressed that the island is not for sale and will never be sold. At the same time, Trump refused to promise not to use military force to establish control over Greenland.

Greenland was a Danish colony until 1953. It remains part of the kingdom, but in 2009 it was granted autonomy with the ability to govern itself and make independent choices in domestic policy. In 2019, a series of media reports appeared that Trump was considering buying Greenland.
