Ukrainian law enforcement has identified the Ukrainian soldier who was captured and beheaded by the Russian forces, reported Ukrinform, referring to a message on “Facebook” on the page of the chief prosecutor Andriy Kostin, BTA reported.
„Regarding the investigation into the brutal killing of the Ukrainian defender in the Donetsk region, which was reported yesterday, the slain serviceman has been identified. At the moment, we cannot say his name because final confirmation procedures are underway,” wrote the Attorney General.
Ukrainian law enforcement authorities have also identified the Russian military commanders who are believed to be responsible for the beheading of the Ukrainian soldier, the country's chief prosecutor's office announced.
Kostin emphasized that the killing of a Ukrainian prisoner of war is another confirmation that complete disregard for international law and universal morality is part of Russian state policy.
„Any world leader who shakes hands with Putin should realize that he is shaking hands with a man who tolerates barbaric killings,” he said.
According to information released yesterday, Ukraine's chief prosecutor Andriy Kostin said that Russian commanders ordered the Ukrainian military not to be captured, but instead to be killed with inhuman brutality – by beheading. One such case has been confirmed in the Donetsk region.
In April, the head of the Department for Combating Crimes Committed During the Armed Conflict - Yury Belousov, said that the Prosecutor General's Office was investigating 27 cases of executions of a total of 54 Ukrainian prisoners of war.
