Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan offered condolences to his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin in connection with the weekend attacks on churches and synagogues in Russia's predominantly Muslim region of Dagestan, the Turkish presidency announced, as quoted by BTA.

The two had a telephone conversation today, in which Erdogan stated that Turkey is against all forms of terrorism, condemned the attacks and expressed his condolences to the Russian people for the dead and his wishes for the speedy recovery of the wounded.

Turkey will continue to make efforts to end all conflicts in the region, Erdogan told Putin in the conversation, the presidency's message on the X social media platform also stated.

Gunmen attacked two Orthodox churches and a synagogue in Dagestan on Sunday, killing a priest and at least 15 policemen, authorities said, condemning the actions as "terrorist". The attacks took place in the capital of Dagestan, Makhachkala, and in the coastal city of Derbent.
