Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to visit Russia, most likely next month, DPA reported, quoted by BTA, citing an official statement by a Russian representative, as well as information from Indian and Russian media.
"I can confirm that we are preparing the visit of the Indian Prime Minister," said the advisor on foreign policy of the Russian President Vladimir Putin - Yuri Ushakov. He did not mention a date, but the Russian news agency TASS informed that Modi's visit is scheduled for July 8 and 9.
There was no confirmation from the Indian government, but India's PTI news agency reported that a visit by the prime minister to Moscow early next month was being considered, citing diplomatic sources. Earlier today, another Russian agency, RIA Novosti, reported on the visit.
The trip to Russia would be Modi's second overseas visit since he was re-elected as India's prime minister earlier this month. His first overseas visit was to Italy for the G-7 summit in mid-June.
Experts are of the opinion that the timing of his visit to Russia speaks to the importance Delhi attaches to its relations with Moscow, DPA noted, pointing to the fact that India maintains a neutral stance on military action of the Kremlin in Ukraine.
This would be Modi's first visit to Russia since the start of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022. He was in Moscow in 2019.
