North Korea launched a ballistic missile towards the Sea of Japan, the South Korean news agency Yonhap reported, citing BTA, citing of the Joint Chiefs of Staff in Seoul.
The South Korean military said the launch came as North Korea again sent multiple plastic bag balloons filled with trash across the heavily militarized border between the two countries. Yonhap cited an unidentified South Korean military source as saying North Korea is believed to have tested a hypersonic missile. Japanese media reported that the North Korean missile fell outside Japan's exclusive economic zone.
The military in Seoul described the missile test as a failure.
It was carried out a day after the 74th anniversary of the start of the Korean War and a few days after the American nuclear aircraft carrier "Theodore Roosevelt" arrived in the South Korean city of Busan for trilateral exercises with South Korea and Japan, Reuters noted.
