The lawyer for the founder of the site “Wikileaks” Julian Assange – Jennifer Robinson - described his release as a “historic day”, DPA reported, BTA reported.
„Today is a historic day. "It ends 14 years of legal battles and finally, after 14 years, Julian Assange can go home a free man," Robinson told reporters outside the courtroom.
At the same time, she said the trial set a “dangerous precedent” that should be “worrying” for journalists around the world.
„The US is trying to exercise extraterritorial law over all of you without giving you the constitutional protection of free speech. Anyone who cares about free speech and democratic accountability should stand up to this," she said.
„I hope the fact that today we managed to free Julian Assange against all odds and against one of the most powerful governments in the world will give hope to all the journalists and publicists around the world who are imprisoned. We urge everyone who is fighting for Julian to continue to fight for him and everyone else in the hope that we will secure their future freedom as well, she added.
