Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni criticized The European Union called it a "bureaucratic giant" that imposes many untenable rules, DPA reported, quoted by BTA.

In a speech to the Chamber of Deputies in Rome, she urged the European Commission to consider making the reduction of bureaucracy a strict obligation. According to her, this would help to clear the administrative "jungle" and would signal a change.

Melloni pointed out that the EU bureaucracy mostly punishes entrepreneurs, and called the "bureaucratic giant" to transform itself into a political one that is strong in its millennial existence, that realizes its incomparable superiority in many fields and that helps its production systems establish itself in global competition.

Melloni said the EU should have tools to encourage private investment oriented towards more entrepreneurial markets.

She also criticized the EU for being too bogged down in ideologically based decisions, which she said had undermined citizens' trust in the institutions.

"The feeling is of a union that interferes too much in aspects of everyday life," she pointed out.
