The German Interior Ministry banned the Hamburg Islamic Center after dozens of police raided the "Imam Ali" mosque earlier today. in Hamburg, also known as the Blue Mosque, reported the world agencies, quoted by BTA.
The mosque, located in a central district on the shores of northern Germany's Lake Ausenalster, is run by the Hamburg Islamic Center (HIC), which German intelligence believes is run by Iran. Germany's Federal Intelligence Service has classified HIT as extremist.
In April, a Home Office spokesman said the HIC's investigation into the Association Act was being conducted "without having certain expectations of the outcome,", DPA said.
German authorities have banned the Hamburg Islamic Center and related organizations for pursuing radical Islamist goals, according to an announcement in the federal newspaper (Bundesanzeiger).
The Ministry of the Interior said that on the basis of a court order, fifty-three premises of the organization in 8 federal states were searched early this morning, according to Reuters.
