Ukraine said today it had repelled a Russian drone attack in the area outside the capital Kiev overnight, but debris injured two people, identified by Ukrainian media as a former Russian lawmaker turned critic of Kremlin, and his wife, reported Reuters, quoted by BTA.

Former Russian MP Ilya Ponomarev, who has lived in Ukraine for years and has Ukrainian citizenship, wrote on the social platform "X" that today feels like his "second birthday". and will announce details later.

According to "Ukrainska Pravda", fragments of downed drones damaged his home and injured him and his wife.

Ukrainian news site "Observer" posted a photo of Ponomarev looking at the camera, his face and upper chest covered in blood.

Ukrainian police released footage of the damaged three-story private apartment building in the Kiev region and reported an injured couple, without naming Ponomarev. The two are being treated in a hospital in Kyiv, said the message quoted by DPA.

Ponomaryov was a member of the Russian State Duma from 2007 to 2016. He was the only Russian lawmaker at the time to vote against the annexation of Ukraine's Crimea peninsula in March 2014.
