The fire in the cooling tower of the Zaporizhia nuclear power plant power plant is completely liquidated.

This was announced on his Telegram channel by the Chairman of the Committee on Sovereignty, Patriotic Projects and Veterans Support of the Public Chamber of the Russian Federation Vladimir Rogov, quoted by TASS .

„The fire in the cooling tower of the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant, which occurred after an attack by the Ukrainian armed forces, has been completely extinguished,”, he wrote.

Earlier, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said that the fire was the work of a "foreign occupier".

A cooling tower is a special device for cooling a large amount of water using a directed air flow. Large capacity cooling towers are used to cool heat exchangers, particularly in thermal power plants and nuclear power plants.

Earlier, the governor of the Zaporizhzhia region Yevgeny Balitsky announced that the cooling systems of the Zaporizhzhia NPP caught fire as a result of a strike by the Armed Forces of Ukraine. According to him, all six power units of the plant are in cold shutdown, there is no danger of a steam explosion, and the radiation background around the NPP and the town of Energodar remains normal. The fire did not affect the operation of the nuclear power plant in any way.
