Former US President Barack Obama will be the main focus and will appear tonight on the podium in Chicago — a city with which he is deeply connected — to make an address on the second day of the National Congress of the Democratic Party, DPA reported, quoted by BTA.

The 44th US president, who has become an iconic figure in Democratic politics, is expected to pay tribute to outgoing President Joe Biden, who served as his vice president for eight years, and use his well-known speeches donations to strongly support Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris.

Obama, who began his political career precisely in Chicago, has not appeared much since he left the presidency in January 2017. However, he remains a popular public figure and one of the most powerful voices of the left political forces, DPA notes.

First elected in 2008, Obama was the first black president in US history. Harris — the first woman, the first black, and the first Asian American to become vice president of the United States — will be another White House front-runner if he defeats Republican Donald Trump in November. So far, the United States has not had a female president in its history.

Harris erased Trump's lead in the polls after Biden abandoned his campaign and endorsed her about a month ago. She narrowed Trump's margin or overtook him in the key states that will determine the outcome of the presidential election in November, DPA notes.
