Three suspects wanted in connection with the murder of an Israeli businessman of Arab origin in Istanbul have been detained in Romania, the Turkish police announced last night, as quoted by the Associated Press and BTA.
Abdulkadir Anas was shot dead on Sunday night in Istanbul while sitting in his car. Two other men accompanying him in the vehicle were injured, one of whom remains in critical condition.
The alleged attackers fled across the Bulgarian border within two and a half hours of the shooting in Istanbul's Kagitane district. They will be returned to Turkey, the police said. Four other people allegedly involved in planning the attack were arrested on Monday.
The professional manner in which the killing was carried out has sparked widespread speculation in the Turkish media that Israel was involved in the shooting. However, Istanbul's regional governor's office said the attack was motivated by a dispute over money.
