Poland: We dismantled a sabotage group that worked for the Kremlin - 1

Polish security services neutralized a sabotage operation linked with Russia and Belarus, which was aimed at destabilizing Poland, Deputy Prime Minister Krzysztof Gawkowski announced, quoted by Reuters, writes BTA.

Warsaw has repeatedly accused Moscow of trying to destabilize Poland, something Russia denies. The saboteurs operated from Belarus in cooperation with Russia. They have been implemented in local and central government institutions, including state-owned companies that execute military contracts, the deputy prime minister added.

„The Belarusian and Russian foreign services... had a specific goal - to acquire information for the purpose of extortion, to blackmail individuals and institutions and conduct a de facto cyber war,” said Gavkovski, who is also the Minister of Digitalization.

He said the operational objective - to steal data for extortion purposes - had been thwarted.

Gavkowski says cyber attacks have doubled since last year and are targeting Polish organizations and institutions, including logistics companies that make military supplies to Ukraine.

„In cyberspace, dangers come every hour, every minute. It often happens that there are over a thousand incidents in one day,” says Gavkowski, who said in June that Poland had blocked several cyberattacks against its critical infrastructure.

Poland has also linked Russia to cases of sabotage and arson on its territory and claims that Russian secret services are actively trying to gather information on arms deliveries to Ukraine after Russia's full-scale invasion in February 2022.
