Russian troops have not reached the outskirts of the town of Ugledar in the Donetsk region, but reconnaissance groups are operating there. This was stated on Wednesday by the governor of the Donetsk region Vadim Filashkin, quoted by Reuters.
"Our defenders are trying to push them away. The city has not been captured," Filashkin said on Ukrainian television.
The head of the Russian-occupied part of the Donetsk region, Denis Pushilin, appointed by Moscow, said on Wednesday on the propaganda channel "Solov'ov live" that the Russian military had managed to enter the city: "Already in Ugledar itself we see military actions".
Earlier it was reported that the situation of the Ukrainian units defending Ugledar is getting worse. The advancing Russian units surround the city from the southwest and northeast and have already taken it in a semicircle, seriously threatening logistics.
Military intelligence of the British Ministry of Defense said in its report on Wednesday that the Russian army has made new gains in the Ugledar area and is likely to threaten the city from three sides.
Interfax-Ukraine agency, describing the situation in the city, quotes Ivan Tymochko, who heads the council of reservists of the ground forces of Ukraine. He also reports that the enemy is "making some progress".
"Ugledar isn't even in an operational environment right now. Yes, the battles for the city are very fierce. But you have to distinguish between encirclement and battles on the flanks," Timochko said.
