Summit: Anthony Blinken and Wang Yi discuss US-China relations - 1

US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken will met today in New York with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, reported the US State Department, quoted by Reuters and BTA.

Relations between the world's two largest economies have been strained by disagreements over trade restrictions, tariffs, Taiwan, human rights and conflicts in the Gaza Strip and Ukraine.

Blinken will meet with Wang Yi at 17:30 GMT (20:30 Bulgarian time), the State Department said in a statement.

The Chinese foreign minister is in the US for the annual session of the UN General Assembly.

"The challenges facing the United States as they relate to China are far greater than those of the Cold War,'' Deputy Secretary of State Kurt Campbell said this month.

The government of US President Joe Biden sticks to the position that it does not want a cold war with China. Analysts and US congressmen, however, believe that the global rivalry between the US and China resembles a new type of cold war.

In recent months, Beijing and Washington have kept communication channels open with each other, Reuters notes.
