Pashinyan: Peace between Armenia and Azerbaijan is at hand - 1

Peace between Armenia and Azerbaijan is not only possible , but it is also within reach, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said in his speech at the 79th session of the UN General Assembly in New York, the Armenian news agency ARMENPRESS reported, quoted by BTA.

„This is my fourth speech before the UN General Assembly and this one will be very different from the previous ones,“ Pashinyan noted. The main messages of his previous speeches were related to the difficulties in achieving peace between Armenia and Azerbaijan. “Today I want to say that peace is not only possible, it is within reach,” he added.

On August 30, Armenia and Azerbaijan signed an important document – “Regulation on the joint activity of the commissions for determining the state border”. This is the first legal document signed between the two countries, emphasized Pashinyan.

According to the Prime Minister, the document is based on the Alma Ata Agreements of 1991, which will be used as a basic principle for defining the borders between the two countries. This means that both Armenia and Azerbaijan confirm the principle of mutual recognition of the territorial integrity and inviolability of the borders that existed during the USSR.

”It is now confirmed that the two countries have no territorial claims to each other,” continued Pashinyan. The next step is the signing of the Agreement on establishing peace and diplomatic relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan.
