British Prime Minister Keir Starmer met with Donald Trump in "Trump Tower" in New York to talk with the former American president and candidate of the Republican Party for the presidency of the United States for the elections in November, DPA reported, quoted by BTA.
Ahead of the meeting, Starmer told reporters he wanted to meet Trump face-to-face because he believes strongly in the importance of personal relationships on the world stage.
However, the meeting between the two could cause diplomatic inconveniences not only because of Trump's high-spirited style, but also because Starmer failed to organize a similar meeting with the US vice president and Democratic Party candidate for president Kamala Harris, DPA notes.
British Foreign Secretary David Lammy, who in 2017 called Trump a "racist sympathizer of the "Ku Klux Klan" and the neo-Nazis" and vowed to protest if he visited the UK, also attended the meeting at "Trump Tower".
