Pyongyang: US stokes military confrontations in Indo-Pacific - 1

North Korea condemned The US and its allies for "further fueling military confrontations" by participating in military exercises in the Indo-Pacific region and "talking all the time" for regime change in Pyongyang, the Associated Press reported, quoted by BTA.

North Korea's permanent representative to the United Nations, Kum Son, said his country would take steps to strengthen its defenses, but gave no further details. The statement was made to the UN General Assembly on the last day of the summit of world leaders in New York.

Kim accused the US of trying to dominate the world stage, of not acting fairly towards the community of nations and of abusing the UN to pursue its own goals.

"They are further igniting military confrontations,", North Korea's permanent representative said. "Who developed and used nuclear weapons for the first time in human history?...Who keeps talking about the end of the regime of a sovereign state,", Kim continued. "The UN is being abused for the political goals of a single country. Such a reality should no longer be tolerated and allowed," the North Korean diplomat stressed.

Last month there was a major joint exercise between the US and South Korea, the purpose of which was to strengthen their joint defense capabilities against North Korea, which again accused the allies of preparing an invasion, AP recalls.

A South Korean diplomat called Kim's claims to the UN groundless and pointed out that Pyongyang's nuclear weapons and ballistic missiles are at the center of the tension.

"It is our duty, like every member state, to protect the life and security of our people from the military threat of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea by maintaining a robust combined defense and deterrence posture of South Korea and the United States," said the Deputy Permanent representative of South Korea at the UN Sanjin Kim.
