More than 1.7 million consumers in the United States are without electricity in the regions affected by Hurricane Helen, according to data from the Internet portal Power Outage, cited by Focus.

The online resource's interactive map shows that the most customers without power are currently in South Carolina, where the number reaches nearly 691,000. In Georgia, the number exceeds 495,000, and in North Carolina, more than 398,000.

In addition, nearly 83,000 people remain without power in Virginia and more than 78,000 in Florida.

Earlier, White House Homeland Security Adviser Elizabeth Sherwood Randall told reporters that up to 600 people may have died as a result of the devastating Hurricane Helen that hit the US in recent days. For now, however, the American authorities do not have accurate data on the number of victims and wounded.
