France said today that it has mobilized its military resource in the Middle East to oppose the actions defined by Paris as an Iranian threat, reported Reuters, quoted by BTA.
Iran attacked Israel last night with missiles in response to the entry of Israeli ground troops into southern Lebanon as part of the conflict with the Tehran-backed Shiite movement "Hezbollah".
"France condemns the attack on Israel with ballistic missiles launched by Iran. The country remains fully committed to preserving Israel's security. France is participating with its military resources in the Middle East in countering the Iranian threat," said the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs in a statement, quoted by Reuters.
The statement did not provide details on the role France played in repelling the Iranian attack, but confirmed French participation in intercepting Iranian missiles last night, the agency noted.
French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barro has spoken with US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken to coordinate diplomatic moves, and a meeting is scheduled for today in Berlin with German Foreign Minister Analena Berbock.
German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said today that "Iran risks igniting the entire region" and "this must be prevented at all costs", and earlier French President Emmanuel Macron said he strongly condemned the new Iranian attacks on Israel.
Talks between France, Germany, Great Britain, Italy and the United States are scheduled for today regarding the situation in the Middle East, which will be discussed this evening at a meeting of the UN Security Council convened on the initiative of Paris, according to Reuters.
