The European Union organizes a humanitarian air bridge to Lebanon, it was announced today a spokesman for the European Commission. Initially, it is planned to send three flights, quoted by BTA.
According to the spokesman, the aid provided includes blankets and tents. He specified that the EU remains ready to send additional flights to Lebanon if necessary.
A message from the European Commission notes that the first flights will be operated from Dubai and Brindisi on October 11. It is additionally stated that under the EU civil protection mechanism, since last week, aid has been sent to Lebanon from Spain, Slovakia, Poland, France, Belgium and Greece.
The Commission is covering the costs of the flights, and so far the main aid sent has been medicine. The EC specifies that since the beginning of the year, Lebanon has received humanitarian shipments from the EU worth around 104 million euros.
