NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte: Two percent of GDP on defense will not be enough - 1

NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte said today that providing two percent of GDP for defense in the alliance countries will not be enough. He made this statement during a briefing after a meeting with Latvian Prime Minister Evika Silinja in Brussels, quoted by BTA.

Regarding predictions that Russia could attack a NATO country by 2030, Rutte assured that the alliance is prepared to respond to any threat. “We are investing more in our defense and will defend every inch of NATO territory. We will do whatever it takes to do that,” he stressed.

Rütte noted that Russia is making limited progress on the front in eastern Ukraine, but at a high cost. He stressed the need for allies to continue their support for Kiev so that when Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and his team decide it is time to negotiate with Russia, they can take a strong position and “dominate the talks”.

According to Rutte, NATO cannot allow Russian President Vladimir Putin's plans for Ukraine to go ahead because the world cannot return to the era of colonization.
