The President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky expects that after the elections in the USA there will be actions by NATO related to sending an official invitation to his country for membership in the alliance, DPA reported, quoted by BTA .

"Not because of the change of president, but because the US is now focused on the election," Zelensky said. He added that the US wants to avoid unnecessary risks at the moment and therefore refrains from clear statements on the issue of the invitation to Ukraine.

Zelensky added that he believed there was a broad consensus that his country should be invited to NATO, and expressed confidence that France, Great Britain and Italy would satisfy Kiev's request. Regarding Germany, he pointed out that the situation largely depends on that in the US. A coordinated position between Washington and Berlin on Ukraine joining the alliance could convince skeptics such as Hungary and Slovakia, he added.

"We have to work a lot with the German side," emphasized Zelensky, but added that the USA will be the decisive factor. According to him, the invitation to NATO membership should be extended to Ukraine within its 1991 borders.
