Is German aid to Ukraine on hold due to government collapse: Olaf Scholz announces breaking news - 1

The German government said today that German aid to Ukraine is guaranteed despite the political instability caused by the collapse of the coalition of Olaf Scholz, who obstructed the discussion of the budget, reported France Press.

"It is important to say that both military and financial aid to Ukraine is guaranteed. We are providing significant assistance both at the national level and within the G-7”, the spokeswoman for the German government said at a press conference.

Germany is the main donor of aid to Ukraine among the countries of the European Union, second only to the USA on a global scale.

Two days ago, the German ruling coalition split, and Chancellor Scholz fired Finance Minister Christian Lindner. This means that Germany's federal budget, which is the main source of tension in the government, cannot be adopted this month as originally planned, AFP recalls.

The original version of the budget called for Germany to give Ukraine 4 billion euros in military aid in 2025, which is half the amount it received this year.

Passing the budget as a whole is deadlocked after Scholz said he would govern with a minority government made up of his Socialists and the Greens, but without the support of the Liberals.

The Constitution guarantees that “the federal state is able to act” in the event of an emergency budget situation, the spokeswoman for the German government emphasized today.

"Funds for current expenses and obligations are secured. Additional expenses necessary to protect the public interest are foreseen, she added.

The political crisis in Germany is another uncertainty facing Ukraine. Kyiv is experiencing serious difficulties on its eastern front. There is also uncertainty about the intentions of the future US President Donald Trump towards Ukraine.
