Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban requested a phone call with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to discuss the possibility of a Christmas ceasefire, but was refused.
This was announced by Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Economic Relations Péter Szijjártó in the Sunday program of Kossuth Radio.
He recalled that on December 11, Orban discussed the possibility of a Christmas truce and a large-scale prisoner exchange between the two countries by phone. The prime minister then wanted to make the same offer to Zelensky.
"I informed the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine [Andriy Szibiga] and the head of the Cabinet of the President of Ukraine [Andriy Yermak] about this, requesting a phone conversation between Viktor Orbán and Volodymyr Zelensky, but we were refused", Szijjártó revealed.
The head of the Hungarian Foreign Ministry called Ukraine's decision "an absolutely unprecedented gesture in diplomacy".
