US President-elect Donald Trump's request to postpone the scheduled sentencing of his hush money payment on Friday was denied last night by New York Judge Juan Mercan, Reuters reported, quoted by BTA.
Lawyers for Trump, who is to take office as US president for a second term on January 20 - 10 days after his sentencing for hush money to porn star Stormy Daniels, said it was "irrelevant" that their client would not serve prison time.
"The violation of presidential immunity cannot be ignored because of the rush to sentencing before taking office," the president-elect's lawyers wrote in their lawsuit.
Trump had called Judge Juan Mercan's decision not to dismiss the case against him an "illegal political attack."
