British Foreign Secretary David Lammy said he was confident in the recognition of Greenland as part of the Kingdom of Denmark by re-elected US President Donald Trump. However, he warned that Trump's rhetoric could create destabilization, “Reuters“ reported, quoted by BTA.
“We know from Donald Trump's first term that his rhetoric, often unpredictable, has the potential to be destabilizing,“ Lamy commented in an interview with BBC Radio when asked about Trump's statements regarding Greenland and the possibility of it becoming part of the United States.
Lamy stressed that Trump's likely motivation in this direction is related to his concerns about the increased Russian and Chinese presence in the Arctic and for the national economic security of the United States.
“I am convinced that Trump ultimately recognizes that Greenland remains part of the Kingdom of Denmark,“ the British Foreign Secretary added.
